The RM of Tache has decided to start billing the community recreation center in Lorette for false alarm calls in the facility after a rash of fire calls.

According to council, the Municipal Fire Department responded to three fire calls at the Complexe Communautaire de Lorette Community Complex since October, 2008. All three were false alarms.

The municipality noted that it had cost the department approximately $500 each time they responded to the false alarm.

“It has been determined that the calls may have been avoided,” the resolution by council reads. “Consistently responding to false alarms may result in the unavailability to respond to an actual emergency.”

As a result, the municipality agreed that in the future, all costs associated with responding to false alarm calls at the complex will be billed directly to the facility.
