Manitoba’s Fire Commissioner is urging landowners, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to be fire smart during this extremely dry fall.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner, Manitoba Conservation and the RCMP are assisting with investigations by local fire departments in the rural municipalities of Alonsa and Lakeview where a significant number of human-caused fires have recently taken place.  No injuries or structure damage have been reported to date but the potential for a significant fire problem is high because of low or no snow cover and windy conditions.

Landowners and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to be cautious during this time of year and are being warned that they may be charged under the Fires Prevention and Emergency Response Act and the Wildfires Act for their actions.
