On November 21, 2009 around 5:30am, Norway House RCMP responded to a report of a house fire with unknown residents inside.
When police arrived, half of the house was engulfed in flames and smoke. One of the occupants, an elderly woman with medical concerns, was assisted out of the house by her 16-year-old grandson. The third occupant was trapped inside by the smoke. RCMP attempted to enter the house, however the smoke was too thick to go past the front entryway. The Norway House Fire Department arrived on scene and began to put the fire out. The Fire Department were able to enter the house and bring the third resident out where he was immediately transported to the Norway House Hospital by Emergency Services.
The victim, a 25-year-old male of Norway House, was in stable condition in Norway House Hospital and was air transported to Health Sciences in Winnipeg. The other residents were treated on scene by paramedics and released.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and the investigation continues with the assistance of the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
