On November 20, 2009 shortly before 5am , Dakota Ojibway Police Service were called to an injured male at a residence on Roseau River First Nation.
Upon arrival, RCMP found the male deceased. RCMP Serious Crime Unit with RCMP Major Crime Unit and RCMP Forensic Identification Units were on-site to provide assistance to the Dakota Ojibway Police Service with the homicide investigation.
Two residents of Roseau River First Nation have been charged in relation to the death of 36-year-old Sheldon George Atkinson, also a resident of the same community. 19-year-old Anastasia Alexander and 20-year-old Rennie Scott have been formerly charged with second degree murder.
A post mortem was conducted on November 21, 2009 at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg. The cause of death was determined to be as a result of blunt force trauma.
Alexander and Scott will be appearing in Winnipeg Provincial Court on Monday Nov 23, 2009
