On November 25, 2009 at 2:20pm, RCMP Oakbank Detachment were dispatched to a break and enter in progress at a residence on Dundee-Garson Road.
RCMP were advised that three culprits had been spotted by an area resident and their vehicle, described as a grey mid-sized car, was being followed. One culprit had bailed out of the vehicle at the intersection of Hillside and Dundee-Garson road and was now on foot, two remained in the car and had continued into a yard on Provincial Road 206.
RCMP Oakbank Detachment arrived on scene and established a perimeter. With the assistance of RCMP Beausejour, St. Pierre, Selkirk Traffic Services, and the RCMP Police Dog Services, a search was executed for the two suspects that had now fled from the vehicle and ran into the bushes.
Approximately 1.5 hours later, police observed the suspects on a stolen ATV, and pursued the suspects into a swamp. A local farmer attended the location and volunteered his assistance and ATV to drive police into the swamp where the stolen ATV was located. The police dog was then utilized to track and locate the 2 suspects.
RCMP were later alerted to a second break and enter to a different residence on Dundee-Garson Road, from which the suspects were in possession of stolen property.
The two suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Jared Schaffer and 22-year-old Thunder Belanger, both from Winnipeg. Both have been charged with two counts of break, enter and commit, possession of stolen property, and flight from police. Jared Schaffer is also facing one count of breaching a condition of a recognizance.
RCMP also executed four warrants of arrest held by the Winnipeg Police Service on Thunder Belanger, one warrant for assault, one for utter threats X4, and 2 additional warrants for mischief under $5,000.
Both are scheduled to appear in Winnipeg Court on Friday, November 27, 2009.
The third suspect remains at large. The investigations continues.
