The Seine River School Division is feeling very positive about an in-house program offered to Teacher’s Assistants (TA’s) that work within the division.

According to Helga Berger, Assistant Superintendent of the Seine River School Division, the program was launched a couple of years ago with the mandate to train and educate TA’s so that they may work more effectively and efficiently with students in the Seine River School Division.

“Out of 150 TA’s in the division, 100 qualified for the course and are almost done,” says Berger.” The program is offered at no cost but follows strict guidelines so that students get a better level of service.”

The course has been offered in 6 segments over 3 years with the first group to graduate in 2009.

The role of a TA within the Seine River School Division is very important. They are hired to meet the needs of specific students and/or program needs within the school. The TA is there because of a particular child, but is also a support to the teacher in order that all students’ needs are met.

Some of the benefits of an assistant include more student-oriented and flexible programs, and the ability to provide more one-on-one assistance in the classroom which ultimately, creates a win-win situation for all.
