On December 1, 2009, at approximately 7:30 pm, the Ashern RCMP were dispatched to a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 6 near Camper, Manitoba.

A police investigation showed that just after passing a south bound vehicle, the involved north bound vehicle had struck a pedestrian who had apparently been standing in the north bound lane. It would appear that due to headlight glare from the two vehicles meeting and based on the time when this pedestrian came into view, the collision was unavoidable on the part of the driver.

The driver of the vehicle was found to have consumed no alcohol, and speed is not believed to be a contributing factor.

The pedestrian was then transported to the Ashern hospital where she was pronounced dead. The deceased was a 42-year-old female from Winnipeg.
