On December 14, 2009 at about 2am, God’s Lake Narrows RCMP were on their way to a call when they were advised that a person had possibly fallen through the ice in the Narrows area between the Community of God’s Lake Narrows and the First Nation Community.

RCMP attended the scene and located a female in the water hanging onto a piece of ice. RCMP were able to perform a rescue with the assistance of the local fire department equipment and were able to bring the subject to shore. She was transported to the God’s Lake Narrows Nursing Station where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The deceased is a 19-year-old woman of the God’s Lake Narrows First Nation. Her name is not being released at the request of the family.

Investigation into the circumstances continues. Foul play is not suspected. Thin ice and frigid water are considered factors in this matter.

A post mortem will be scheduled in Winnipeg at the Health Sciences Centre to confirm the cause of death.
