After a lengthy investigation into a rash of break and enters in the Wasagaming area, RCMP have charged 21-year-old Rhys Morgan Collyer of Onanole with 30 counts of break and enter and two counts of possession of stolen property.

Numerous cottage and homeowners in the resort area and neighboring rural municipalities of Clanwilliam and Park fell victim to the break and enters, most after closing down their seasonal residences on the September long weekend. Electronics were targeted by thieves during the incidents.

A traffic stop conducted by Brandon Police Service on October 15, 2009 found Collyer in possession of high end electronics which had yet to be reported stolen. Wasagaming and Elphinstone Detachments, assisted by the Brandon and Winnipeg RCMP Major Crime units and Dauphin RCMP Forensic Identification Section partnered with Brandon Police after linking the items and Collyer to the offences.

Collyer surrendered in Onanole on November 24, 2009 after warrant was issued for his arrest. He was released on conditions, with an appearance date of January 12, 2010 to face the first of his charges. Additional charges will be addressed at a January 26, 2010 appearance, both in Minnedosa provincial court.

The investigation is ongoing at this time, several related charges are pending against an Erickson youth who is a co-accused in the crimes.
