Two 14-year-old girls have been arrested and charged after a text message had been received containing threats against the personal safety of several students at a Selkirk school.
On December 31, 2009, the Selkirk RCMP Detachment received a report of a text message that had been received containing threats against the personal safety of several students at the Selkirk Junior High School. During the follow-up investigation, it was revealed that various methods of electronic messaging had been utilized to circulate the threatening message to other students.
The Selkirk RCMP investigators worked closely with the Lord Selkirk School Division, Selkirk Junior High administrators and the parents of those students involved.
As a result of the investigation two 14-year-old girls were arrested and charged with uttering threats and were remanded into custody. The educational status of both girls is before the Lord Selkirk School Division.
The Selkirk RCMP Detachment is continuing to work closely with the school to continue providing students and staff with a safe school environment.
The investigation is continuing.
