On January 7, 2010, at about 4:45am, Island Lake RCMP received a complaint of an injured female at a residence located in Garden Hill First Nation.
The victim was transported to the Garden Hill Nursing Station with life threatening injuries and subsequently flown to Heath Sciences Winnipeg. The victim has since succumbed to her injuries.
A female resident of Garden Hill has been arrested in connection with the homicide. Formal charges have not been laid at this time and the investigation is continuing.
RCMP Major Crime Services along with RCMP Forensic Identification Services from The Pas and Thompson are providing investigative assistance to the Island Lake RCMP Detachment.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time and an autopsy was conducted January 8, 2010, at the Health Sciences Centre.
