Swan River RCMP are conducting an investigation into a robbery and assault that occurred on January 6, 2010 at about 4am.

Police received a call regarding an elderly male having been injured and who was currently at the local hospital emergency room suffering from serious injuries which included a broken arm, severe cuts and bruises consistent with being dragged by a vehicle or from being forced from his vehicle.

Police investigation has established the man picked up five females and drove them out to the country at their request. While traveling along a rural gravel road near Swan River, the females seriously assaulted the elderly man and stole his vehicle momentarily before becoming stuck a few hundred yards from where the man had been assaulted. The five females fled the scene on foot leaving the man to fend for himself. He subsequently made it back to his stuck vehicle and it was sometime later, passerbys located him and transported him to the local hospital.

Three female youths and two 18-year-old female adults were arrested and have been formally charged with robbery, assault causing bodily harm and other related criminal charges. The two adults and one of the youths were released by Justices with strict conditions. One youth has been remanded into custody while the last youth is still awaiting a formal court hearing.

The victim is listed in stable condition.
