On January 8, 2010, at approximately 4:30pm, Bloodvein RCMP received a report of a plane crash that occurred at the airport in Bloodvein, Manitoba.
A commercial plane from Ontario, carrying 13 passengers including 9 adults and four infants, crashed on the runway after the pilot failed to deploy the landing gear. The plane identified as a twin engine Piper Navaho Chiefton landed on it’s belly causing damage to the aircraft. The lone pilot, along with all 13 passengers, were not injured in the crash.
The plane remained on the runway at the Bloodvein airport until the aircraft could be removed. The airport was temporarily closed but has since re-opened.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and the initial cause of the crash is believed to be pilot error.
