On January 18, 2010, at 10:45am, members of the Thompson RCMP were on routine patrol of Tataskweyak First Nation (Split Lake), when they attended the RCMP patrol cabin at that location.
It was discovered that the main entrance had been forcibly opened and soot was emanating from around the door frame. An individual had broken in, stolen several items and attempted to set the trailer on fire, resulting in soot and smoke damage.
The total extent of damage is still being assessed. The incident had occurred sometime within the last week while the trailer was vacant.
Police have arrested 21-year-old Ruben Kelvin Kitchekeesik, a resident of Tataskweyak First Nation, Manitoba. Kitchekeesik has been charged with break and enter, arson, mischief over $5000 and breach of probation. Kitchekeesik is remanded in custody to appear in Thompson court on January 21, 2010.
