On January 23, 2010, at approximately 11:55am, Steinbach RCMP were dispatched to a two vehicle collision on Highway 52 in the RM of La Broquerie located east of Steinbach.
A westbound Chevrolet TrailBlazer with two occupants collided with an eastbound Honda Civic also carrying two occupants.
The driver of the Honda Civic, 38-year-old David Dik along with his 35-year-old wife Elisabeth Dik of the RM of Hanover, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Both occupants of the Chevrolet Trailblazer sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach.
The cause of the collision is believed to have been the result of poor road conditions and speed and alcohol were not a factor. Both the deceased were not wearing their seatbelts.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday January 25, 2010 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.
Highway 52 between Steinbach and La Broquerie was closed during the investigation but has since re-opened.
Steinbach RCMP were assisted by an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
