Dauphin RCMP are investigating an early morning robbery that occurred around 6:30am on January 23, 2010.

Officers attended to a south-end housing complex after receiving a 911 call. Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found a 67-year-old man who had been beaten about his head. The suspect had fled on foot.

The area was contained and the suspect was located with the assistance of the Police Dog Service from Dauphin. The suspect had broken into a shed and was attempting to hide from the police when he was apprehended.

18-year-old Jerome Sonny Cook, from the Shoal River First Nation, has been charged a number of criminal offences including robbery, aggravated assault, break and enter and breach of recognizance. Cook has been remanded in custody to appear in Dauphin Provincial Court January 26, 2010.

The victim was treated for his injuries and has been released from hospital.

The investigation continues.
