On January 29, 2010, at about 7:30pm, Thompson Rural RCMP received a report of a house fire at a hunter’s cabin approximately 2 km North of Nelson House, Manitoba.
The fire was attended to by the Nelson House and Thompson Rural RCMP as well as the Nelson House First Nation Fire Department. The residence was engulfed with flames and was completely destroyed by the fire.
Further investigation into the fire lead to the discovery of a deceased body located inside the burnt residence.
The identity of the deceased will not be released at this time until positive identity of the victim is made through dental records and notification of next of kin is made. An autopsy has been ordered.
Thompson Rural RCMP with the assistance of the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner, Thompson Forensic Identification Section continue to investigate what caused the fire.
