On January 31, 2010, at 5:45am, RCMP members were advised by a guard that a prisoner was being assaulted in a cell at the Cross Lake RCMP Detachment.
RCMP Cross Lake members, who were out on what turned out to be a bogus homicide call, summoned an off-duty officer to attend the cell block to expedite attendance.
22-year-old Dean Warren Pagee of Cross Lake First Nation was removed from the cell, arrested and has since been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, uttering threats and two counts of breach of probation. Pagee has been remanded into custody to appear in Thompson Provincial Court on February 2, 2010.
The victim, a 21-year-old local man, who was found unconscious, was transported by EMS to the local Nursing Station and has since been medevaced to the Health Sciences Centre where he is reported to be in unstable critical condition.
Cross Lake RCMP continue to investigate assisted by the RCMP Thompson Forensic Identification Services and the RCMP D Division Serious Crime Unit.
