On January 31, 2010, at about 2:15pm, RCMP in Headingley seized an estimated 300 pounds of marijuana from a semi tractor-trailer during a commercial vehicle inspection.
The rig, bearing Ontario plates, had been heading eastbound, east of Provincial Road 334 on the Trans Canada Highway in Headingley.
The marijuana was discovered in boxes mixed within the load of freight believed to be destined for eastern Canada. The lone occupant/driver of the truck was arrested for trafficking a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The value of the seizure is estimated at $780,000.
The driver’s name is not being released as he has not been formally charged yet.
The investigation is continuing.
