On February 6, 2010, at 4:15pm, RCMP Powerview Detachment members were called and advised of a plane crash 4.5 miles south of the Manigotogan River on Lake Winnipeg.
RCMP learned that the pilot and one adult male passenger, both from Manigotagan, left Mantago Bay on Lake Winnipeg on a private single engine plane when they encountered bad weather a few miles south into their flight. The pilot attempted to return to Mantago Bay to no avail and the plane crashed on Lake Winnipeg.
The pilot, who walked back to his residence on Mantago Bay, contacted both the RCMP and local area EMS for assistance. It was learned that the passenger suffered injuries and was still at the crash site.
Assisted by local area residents and with snowmobiles, the passenger was retrieved from the crash site. Both the pilot and the passenger were taken by ambulance to Pine Falls Hospital where they remain with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP attended the crash site to survey the scene and with the Transportation Safety Board will continue to investigate.
