RCMP St. Pierre Detachment have laid charges against a St. Genevieve man following an investigation into a complaint of Sexual Assault reported to the Winnipeg Police Service on January 6, 2009.
The 20-year-old woman had accompanied the accused to his residence in St. Genevieve from Winnipeg when the assault occurred. The victim was examined in hospital and subsequently released with non-life threatening injuries. The victim and Unger did not know each other.
On January 7, 2009, Brian Peter Unger (33 years) of St. Genevieve was arrested by St. Pierre RCMP and has remained in custody since his arrest. He will be appearing in Winnipeg court January 12, 2009.
Unger faces charges of Sexual Assault with a Weapon, Sexual Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Forcible Confinement.
The matter remains under investigation by the St. Pierre RCMP Detachment with the assistance of the D Division Major Crime Services and RCMP Forensic Identification Section.
