On March 13, 2010, at approximately 7pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a 911 call of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 227 in the RM of Portage la Prairie.
A red Ford Mustang traveling west bound struck an east bound red Ford F150 that was pulling a trailer. The lone male driver of the Mustang, a 36-year-old male from Sandy Bay First Nation, was injured in the crash and Portage Fire Department had to extricate him from the vehicle. He was then transported to Portage General Hospital by ambulance and later transferred to Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the collision.
The 36-year-old male driver of the Ford F150 truck and his 12-year-old male passenger, were treated on scene for non life threatening injuries.
A Traffic Analyst attended the scene to assist in the investigation.
The police investigation continues.
