An RM of DeSalaberry man has been the victim of an overseas fraud scheme involving an overpayment on a vehicle he was selling.
The vehicle, advertised locally for a nominal amount, was purchased and overpaid for by an overseas buyer requesting re-payment for the excess funds via Money Gram. The refund was made once the payment cleared the bank process but was later deemed to be a counterfeit document.
The victim has lost an excess of $1500.00 in the transaction.
Police remind the public that all types of transactions which require the vendor to reimburse the buyer for an overpayment situation are extremely suspicious and most certainly fraudulent. All these situations are to be reported to police and Phone Busters at 1-888-495-8501.
