On March 31, 2010, at about 10:30am, Portage la Prairie RCMP member was patrolling the Trans Canada Highway in the RM of North Norfolk when the member stopped a 1994 Ford Explorer SUV with Manitoba plates traveling westbound for a traffic violation.
A strong odour of marijuana from inside the vehicle lead to the arrest of both the driver, a 20-year-old male from Winnipeg, and the passenger, a 20-year-old male from Saskatchewan. The search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of one and a half pounds of marijuana and a prohibited weapon.
The passenger was released with surety on a promise to appear in Portage la Prairie Court on May 10, 2010. Charges are pending under the Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The driver was released with no charges.
The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be around $6000.
