Arrests have been made in connection with a traffic stop conducted by Russell RCMP earlier in March.
During the traffic stop, a lone male occupant of a 2000 Toyota Tacoma was found to be in possession of approximately 5 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $12,000. 22-year-old Travis Welechenko was arrested and has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Further investigation lead to the execution of a search warrant at a nearby Russell business, “Wella’s Jewelry and Gift” where additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia was seized. The business owner, 52-year-old Peter Welechenko, has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The men arrested are father and son and are both Russell residents. Their first court appearance is May 26, 2010, in Russell, Manitoba.
