On January 19, 2009 around 6:30 PM Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a complaint of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 west of Highway 13.

When police arrived on scene, there were three vehicles in the median, one of which was pulling a camper trailer and was blocking traffic. Traffic was stopped due to the safety hazard of the blocked lane and to allow police to examine the scene.

A pick up truck pulling a camper lost control and went into the median. Road conditions are believed to be a factor. A second pick up truck attempted to avoid the truck and camper and in doing so lost control and went into the median. Another motorist saw the two vehicles in the median and attempted to stop and assist them. While slowing down, the third vehicle, another pick up truck, slid into the median.

No injuries were sustained, and the only damage reported was on the pickup truck and camper.

The pick up truck and camper were towed to clear the blocked traffic lane, and then the highway was reopened.

Icy road conditions were believed to be a contributing factor, and alcohol was not involved. All vehicles involved were travelling west, and no collisions occurred.
