On April 19, 2010, at approximately 9pm, members of the Steinbach RCMP responded to an ATV collision on Road 33 East in the RM of Hanover.

When the police arrived, they determined that a northbound four-wheeler, carrying 26-year-old male from Grunthal, had rear-ended a second four-wheeler which was stopped. The stopped four-wheeler contained two riders, a couple in their 30’s from Grunthal.

All three individuals were transported to local hospitals and then to the Health Science Centre in Winnipeg. All three are in serious condition.

The investigation has determined that the driver of the northbound four-wheeler was wearing a helmet. The riders of the stationary four-wheeler were not wearing helmets. Police have also determined that the northbound four-wheeler had been reported stolen from a residence in the RM of Ste. Anne in August of 2006.

The investigation has determined that alcohol was not a factor, however, speed is believed to have been.

Update: 04/20/10 6:59pm

26-year-old Nathan Taylor from Grunthal, Manitoba, was pronounced dead at 3:25pm at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre as a result of his injuries. Taylor was driving the northbound ATV when he collided with the parked ATVs. Taylor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Steinbach RCMP have determined that the ATV operated by Nathan Taylor was stolen. Further investigation reveals that the ATV was reported stolen from the RM of Ste. Anne in 2006.

Excessive speed and visibility is considered a factor, however, alcohol is not.

Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate the matter.
