Manitoba Conservation reports continued dry weather requires further cancellations of burning permits issued by the department for the northwest and western regions of the province.
No new permits will be issued until current weather conditions change to allow safe burning conditions.
Permits for the eastern and central regions were cancelled April 19.
According to the provincial Fire Program, many areas of the province remain very dry, with the fire hazard increasing as the ground dries. Winds can push flames at a rapid pace, igniting large areas of land and spreading to forests.
Open fires are prohibited from April 1 to Nov. 15 annually, except under a burning permit or in enclosed approved fire pits.
