Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety and Member of Parliament for Provencher announced federal support of more than $59,000 for eight organizations in Provencher under the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

“Canada’s seniors worked hard to make this country the strong nation it is today,” said Minister Toews, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, and the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State (Seniors). “Our government is proud to support projects that engage seniors and keep them involved in their communities.”

The funding announced today includes:

• $10,000 for the Pinegrove Seniors Club Inc. in South Junction;

• $6,225 for the Golden Leisure Club in Pine Falls;

• $6,5000 for Serving Seniors Inc. in Steinbach;

• $5,000 for Le Club Jovial Inc. in Ste. Anne;

• $7,472 for the Grunthal New Horizons Senior Citizens Recreational Centre in Grunthal;

• $7,513 for the Tolstoi and District Seniors Inc. in Tolstoi;

• $7,349 for the Pioneer Club of Lac du Bonnet in Lac du Bonnet; and

• $9,300 for Club des Pionniers de Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

The New Horizons for Seniors Program helps to ensure that seniors are able to benefit from and contribute to the quality of life in their communities through their social participation and active living.

Year Two of Canada’s Economic Action Plan committed $10 million over two years to increase funding for the New Horizons for Seniors Program. This will be in addition to the $35 million that is the current overall budget for the Program. Plans for the implementation of this new funding are now under development.
