On April 28, 2010 at about 6pm, Steinbach RCMP were informed of single vehicle ATV accident on Twin Rivers Road in the RM of La Broquerie involving four children.
RCMP attended the scene where investigation revealed that a 13-year-old male was driving the ATV on a gravel road carrying 2 male passengers aged 2 and 1, along with a female passenger aged 10. It was determined that none of youth were wearing helmets at the time of the accident and were all thrown off the ATV.
The scene was immediately secured by police. The RCMP Traffic Analyst attended to measure and photograph the scene.
The 3 male youths were transported to the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center Children’s hospital. 2 of the boys are in stable condition and one remains in intensive care. The female passenger was transported to the Ste. Anne hospital where she was treated and released.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Steinbach RCMP once again want to stress the importance of abiding by the laws of the Off-Road Vehicle Act. People must wear helmets and not operate off road vehicles on public roadways. This serious accident occurred only 9 days after 26-year-old Nathan Taylor was killed while operating an ATV.
