On January 22, 2009 at 9:23 p.m., Headingley RCMP received a call of a fire at the DOW Bio Products plant situated in Elie, Manitoba.
RCMP members arrived at the scene were met by the Rural Municipality of Cartier Fire Department and a member of the Manitoba Fire Commissioners Office. Investigation revealed that the fire started in 5 rows back from the road and spread very fast do to the heavy winds.
The local volunteer fire department is in the process of extinguishing the fire and are using all means at their disposal at this time. The fire continues to burn and there is no threat to any business’s and or residences in the area.
The fire is being treated as suspicious at this time and the investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Manitoba Fire Commissioners office.
No additional information is available at this time. The investigation continues.
