On June 14, 2010, shortly after 7am, RCMP St. Pierre Detachment along with local area EMS and Fire were dispatched to a collision between a train and a garbage truck.

The collision occurred north of St. Adolphe on Leclaire Road, approximately 2 miles east of Highway 200, in the RM of Ritchot.

A garbage truck was heading eastbound on Leclaire Road when it collided with a southbound CP cargo train at an uncontrolled train crossing. The cargo train which had some empty cars and dangerous goods derailed and about 12 cars were affected. The train was hauling sulphur and sulphuric acid but there was no damage to those cars and none of it leaked. However, some diesel fuel did leak at the scene and the environmental impact is being assessed.

One house was evacuated and remains evacuated as a precaution. The driver of the garbage truck, a 43-year-old man from Oakbank, was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigations continues with the assistance of CP Police.
