The City of Steinbach is looking forward to a different Canada Day celebration this year. Not only have the fireworks been moved to the Steinbach Soccer Park (beside Southland Church on Highway 52), but the Government of Canada has also issued a $7,000 grant to the city to be used for the celebration. The grant money will go towards items such as the fireworks, safety barricades, Canada Day cupcakes, and glowsticks.
From 9am-10:30pm, free Canada Day cupcakes, glowsticks, paper flags, flag pins and stick-on tattoos will be handed out at the Soccer Park.
The fireworks display is set to start no earlier than 10:45pm. Prime viewing locations for the fireworks will be in the Soccer Park, Southland Church parking lot, L.A. Barkman Park (Abe’s Hill) and along Mckenzie Avenue and Bush Farm Road.
The City is looking for ten or so volunteers to assist with handing out the cupcakes and other free giveaways. If you are interested in volunteering, please call 346-6231 or e-mail areitsma@steinbach.ca.
The City gratefully acknowledges the financial contribution from the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Celebrate Canada Program.
