On June 20, 2010 at 1:30am, Roblin RCMP Detachment received a 911 call concerning a group of overdue boaters at Burrows Lake (Duck Mountain Provincial Park) 30km north of Roblin, Manitoba.
Family members reported the four missing boaters, ranging in age from 12 to 40-years-old who had set out fishing at supper time and not returned. Family had found their vehicle and boat trailer parked at the shoreline of the lake.
Natural Resource Officers and RCMP members from Roblin and Russell Detachments quickly coordinated a search of the lake and located the boaters approximately 3 hours later, safe and sound on the shore stranded after their boat motor broke down. All were returned to safety and the boat towed back to the dock by RCMP and Natural Resources.
Police credit the quick rescue to the boaters’ actions – advising someone where they were going and when to expect them back, a very important rule to follow for outdoor activities.
