Speed lowered, motorists cautioned to watch for workers, equipment
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation advises motorists, especially truckers, that repairs to the Trans-Canada Highway east of Winnipeg will result in more traffic lane reductions starting tomorrow.
On Friday, one eastbound lane will be shut down to prepare for the full closure of both westbound lanes, which will occur over the next few days. The repair project will see upgrades and installation of a new highway surface and additional safety features on 22 kilometres of the westbound lanes of the highway. The project is expected to last until fall.
As a result, on Monday, June 28, the eastbound lanes between Deacon’s Corner at PR 207 and the overpass at PTH 12 will be converted temporarily to two-way east and westbound traffic. There will be a speed restriction of 80 km/h, as well as a mandatory reduced speed limit of 60 km/h when passing workers or equipment in this construction zone.
Motorists should exercise caution, expect delays and plan their travel accordingly. Drivers are urged to reduce their speed through all construction zones and obey all signs.
