On January 26, 2009 at 11:05 p.m., Thompson RCMP received a report of a snowmobile collision near the edge of Ospwagon Lake. Thompson Emergency Services and RCMP attended the scene located approximately 22 kilometres south of Thompson, Manitoba.
A 28-year-old male Thompson resident sustained severe injuries after colliding with a tree. He was taken by ambulance to the Thompson General Hospital and subsequently medevaced to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. He is currently listed in critical condition. His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
While the investigation into the incident is continuing, alcohol is believed to be a factor.
