On July 29, 2010, at about 12:58pm, Selkirk RCMP were advised that the MS River Rouge had run aground on the Red River just north of Miller Road off of Highway 9.

Initial reports indicate that the operator of the vessel was traveling north on the Red River with 69 passengers on board when it became stranded on a sandbar or rock reef.

A tugboat from Lockport was called in to assist in freeing the vessel, but it was unable to dislodge it from its position. The Canadian Coast Guard was also dispatched from Gimli to assist with shuttling the passengers to shore and to make further attempts to free the stranded vessel.

RCMP report that the owner of the MS River Rouge was attempting to make arrangements for land transportation of the passengers back to the City of Winnipeg.

Transport Canada was advised of the situation and they are presently investigating the situation.
