A La Broquerie man was arrested and charged in an assault incident which occurred last weekend at the La Broquerie Hotel.
On August 21, 2010, at approximately 4:30am, Steinbach RCMP responded to a report of male and female arguing in the parking lot of the La Broquerie Hotel. RCMP arrived and determined that a 23-year-old female had been attacked by an unknown male in her car in the bar parking lot. During the attack, the male attempted to sexually assault the victim. The male stopped when a car entered the parking lot and then ran away.
A search of the area was completed and no suspect was located. The victim was transported to the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach where she was treated for minor injuries and released.
Steinbach RCMP with the assistance of the Winnipeg Major Crime Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit continued the investigation and a suspect was identified. On August 26, 2010, 23-year-old Bradley Wiebe of the RM of La Broquerie, was arrested and charged with sexual assault and choking to overcome resistance. Wiebe has been remanded into custody and has a court date in Winnipeg on August 27, 2010.
