On August 27, 2010, at about 11:30 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the RM of Portage la Prairie Manitoba. 
 
Portage la Prairie RCMP as well as EMS attended the location just north of the City of Portage la Prairie. A 7-year-old boy from the RM of Macdonald was located injured at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Health Science Centre in critical condition with undetermined injuries.
 
Investigation revealed that the child had been walking with family members on a gravel roadway at the time of the collision. Witnesses report the victim was struck by a pick-up truck which left the scene of the accident without stopping.
 
A 58-year-old male from from the RM of Portage la Prairie has been arrested and remains in police custody. Charges are pending.
 
An RCMP traffic Collision Analyst attended to assist with the investigation.
 
No other persons were reported injured and no other vehicles were involved.
 
Alcohol and speed are considered to be factors in the collision and police continue to investigate.
