On September 1, 2010, about 7pm, Oakbank RCMP, local EMS and Emergency Services were dispatched to the scene of a vehicle rollover near highway 207 on the west end of the Floodway Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway.

Investigation revealed that a 2006 GMC truck pulling a horse trailer had gone off the highway and turned onto its side on the trans Canada Highway just east of Winnipeg.

The driver reported experiencing a blowout on a front tire, causing the vehicle to lose control and enter the ditch, where the truck and trailer both overturned.

The trailer was carrying 4 horses while en route to the Province of Quebec. One horse escaped the trailer and was found grazing nearby. The other three were extricated from the trailer by fire fighters. Original reports were that one or more horses had perished in the crash, however, all survived, and were taken to a nearby ranch to be picked up later.

The two occupants of the truck, a 55-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman, both from the Province of Alberta, were transported to hospital with minor, undetermined injuries.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors at this time.

Police continue to investigate.
