Around 6:30pm, on September 4, 2010, officers from the Dauphin Municipal RCMP detachment clocked a pick-up truck on radar at 135km/hr in an 80km/hr zone just east of the city limits on PTH 20.
The officers attempted to stop the truck but the driver refused to stop. A brief pursuit ensued which lead onto some gravel municipal roads. The driver lost control of the truck and slid into a ditch. He and his passenger then fled on foot into the nearby bush. Shortly afterwards the two men ran from the bush and were arrested. Shortly after the pursuit started, it was learned that the truck had been stolen just moments before from a home on Jessie Street in Dauphin.
20-year-old Wade Andrew Tyler Mousseau has been charged with a number of criminal charges including dangerous driving, impaired driving, flight from police and possession of stolen property. Mousseau has been remanded in custody to appear in Dauphin Court.
Around the same time, another officer came across a car which had gone off the road and struck a hydro pole. This car had been stolen from Southport, Manitoba the previous day.
The investigation into these thefts continues and police believe the two are related.
