On September 9, 2010, at about 7:30pm, RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle being driven erratically eastbound on the Trans Canada Highway near Portage la Prairie.

The vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet cube van from British Columbia, was finally located and stopped by RCMP members near the West Perimeter highway in Headingley.

A strong odour of marijuana from inside the vehicle lead to the arrest of the driver, a 53-year-old man from Vancouver, British Columbia. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 200 pounds of marijuana. There were no other occupants in the van.

The man has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Portage la Prairie Court on November 22, 2010. Charges are pending under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be around $800,000.

Police continue to investigate
