On September 11, 2010, at 11:50am, Carman Area RCMP responded to what was initially reported as a motor vehicle accident at Highway 201 and Road 28 West.
Upon arrival at the scene the driver of a Ford truck advised he was parked on the side of the road when a Grand Am drove by and threw a fence post at his vehicle. The truck turned around to follow the car, which had by that time driven into a ditch a distance away.
RCMP report that all three male occupants of the car were arrested and transported to Carman RCMP Detachment.
As the investigation unfolded, it was determined these individuals were responsible for a number of incidents that occurred in the area in the morning. In addition to mischief under $5,000 (in relation to the truck), investigation revealed the same three persons set fire to a 16′ x 50′ storage shed, valued at approximately $3000. RCMP also report that these individuals set fire to a single bale and damaged several rural mail boxes. These incidents occurred between 8 to 12 miles south of Morden.
Further investigation revealed two of the same suspects are responsible for a large fire. On August 21, 2010, Carman Area RCMP responded to 50 hay bales being set on fire approximately three miles south of Morden. Value of that loss is estimated to be $2,500.
Two of the males involved are 19 years of age and reside in Winkler and Reinfeld and the other, a 20-year-old male, is from the vicinity of the incidents. All were released on Promises to Appear in Morden Provincial Court on October 12, 2010.
