Susan Penner has announced her intentions to run for Steinbach City Council this fall. Her campaign focuses on keeping taxes and debt low.
Penner has recently been associated with the Citizens for Steinbach group that she co-founded to raise concern about Steinbach’s increasing debt. Says Penner, “Citizens for Steinbach has been very effective in informing people about the City’s financial plans. I have decided to step down from my role with Citizens for Steinbach and run for City Council to give an additional voice to citizens who are concerned about Steinbach’s increasing taxes & debt. I will work to ensure Steinbach continues to be an attractive place to live and do business.”
In addition to keeping Steinbach affordable, Penner will be supporting safety and health issues. “Having children of my own, I care about the health of Steinbach for families. Addressing social problems like addictions is something I think is important as addictions affect family wellbeing, lead to crime and increase demands on health care. Providing affordable recreation options is important as there are many one-income families and people on fixed incomes in our community.”
Penner has her Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Manitoba and is the Director of Marketing at WS Machining & Fabrication. Prior to her involvement with Citizens for Steinbach, she initiated the fundraising and installation of the play park at Les Magnusson Park. She has set up a website at susanpenner.com.
