On February 2, 2009 at about 5 p.m., Gimli RCMP were dispatched to a collision about 3 miles north of Beaver Creek on PR 234 in the RM of Bifrost involving two vehicles. Both local area EMS and RCMP responded and found a Chevrolet Uplander with severe front end damage on the west side of the road and an overturned GMC Jimmy on the east side of the road.
RCMP have been able to determine that the Chevrolet Uplander driven by a 47-year-old man from Ontario was southbound following a logging truck when the GMC Jimmy driven by a 51-year-old Bloodvein resident with 3 confirmed passengers were northbound when the collision occurred.
The driver of the GMC was stabilized and transported to Arborg Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. He was transferred to the Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced deceased shortly after 11 p.m. The driver of the Chevrolet Uplander was transported to Gimli Hospital where he was treated and released.
The investigation continues. At this point of the investigation, alcohol is not considered a contributing factor. The roads were confirmed to be slippery and covered with blowing snow.
