On October 8 at about 4:30am, RCMP as well as local fire and ambulance were dispatched to the scene of a two vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 10, approximately 3 km south of The Pas.
Initial reports indicate a Chevrolet Cavalier and a Jeep collided head-on, one of the vehicles was reported to be burned.
There are confirmed fatalities at this time from both vehicles. The total number may be as high as five.
Manitoba Department of Highways has closed Highway 10 and detours are in place. The road is expected to be closed for the remainder of the day. Motorists should expect delays.
An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst will be attending to assist with the investigation.
Police are on scene and continue to investigate.

There are two vehicles confirmed involved in this collision. A 1998 Chevrolet cavalier registered to an owner out of The Pas and a 2007 Jeep Wrangler registered out of Winnipeg. Both vehicles are reported to have been burnt in the collision.
The jeep had two occupants, a man and a woman, both believed to be from Winnipeg. The male survivor is being flown to Winnipeg with unspecified injuries, the woman did not survive the collision. At this time they were believed to be heading north.
The Cavalier had four occupants. Their genders and ages have not yet been determined. Forensic tests will need to be conducted in order to confirm their identities and where they are from. No one in the cavalier survived the collision. The Cavalier was believed to have been traveling south.
The road conditions were reported to have been good. The speed limit at the location is 100 km/hr. There were no other persons or vehicles reported to have been involved in the incident.
No names of deceased or injured will be released pending identification and notification of next of kin.
Police continue to investigate.
