With 16,300 people entering the workforce over the past year, more Manitobans than ever before are working, Entrepreneurship, Training and Trade Minister Peter Bjornson announced.
According to a Statistics Canada labour force report released today, the number of Manitobans employed in September 2010 rose to 659,000, with over half a million workers now employed full time.
“Manitoba is a growth leader among the provinces. The province’s labour market performance remains steady and strong with more Manitobans working than ever before,” said Bjornson.
Not only are full-time jobs being created, but at 5.4 per cent, Manitoba’s unemployment rate is the best in the country, said Bjornson.
According to Statistics Canada, several indicators show Manitoba is performing above the Canadian average. Other strengths include:
• In the last 12 months, Manitoba has created an additional 9,600 private-sector jobs, up 2.2 per cent and above
the national growth rate of 1.6 per cent.
• Since September 2009, Manitoba outpaced Canada with respect to labour force growth (2.5 per cent compared to 1.7 per cent), total jobs (2.5 per cent compared to 2.1 per cent) and full-time jobs (2.5 per cent compared to 1.5 per cent).
