On the October 17, 2010, at about 7:30am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP responded to a report of an overdue hiker on the Mantario Trail, North shore of Big Whiteshell.  
 
A 47-year-old female resident of Winnipeg had left her home Thursday to complete a two day solo hike and was expected to return Saturday evening. Police were alerted early Sunday morning that she had not returned and immediately initiated a search. 
 
The woman was reported to be equipped for a survival situation, with shelter and food supplies for a number of days.
 
The search was conducted with the assistance of the Civilian Air Search and Rescue Association, The Office of the Fire Commissioner, RCMP and volunteer Search and Rescue Manitoba, Lac du Bonnet and Whiteshell Fire Departments, Manitoba Conservation and the RCMP Police Service Dog.
 
The female hiker was spotted by helicopter at approximately 11pm on Sunday after signaling with a flashlight. Her location was south of Turtle Lake, north of the Mantario Trail. 
 
An RCMP ground team was dispatched to the location, and at approximately 7:40am on October 18, 2010, the hiker was air lifted out by helicopter uninjured and taken to local hospital as a precautionary measure.
