Hanover School Division trustee candidate Sam Grauer is proposing that the school division take a strong stance in support of examination as well as facilitate more AP courses.

Under Grauer’s proposal, Hanover would offer support to teachers looking to provide AP level courses. Additionally Hanover would place an increased emphasis on evaluating students using exams.

“I would like to see our school division move in a direction that aids our student’s transitions to post secondary education by providing more AP level courses, and readies them for the exam culture of university,” said Grauer.

Advanced Placement courses, or AP courses, are challenging, standardized classes geared towards students looking to attend a post secondary institution. AP courses are a valuable transitional mechanism based on immersing students in difficult, university style lectures and emphasizing the grading scheme of universities. Additionally, students enrolling in AP courses are often eligible for university credit upon completion of high school.

Grauer added that as a university student he sees the positive impact that a strong examination policy had on his schooling, and wishes to see those benefits passed on to all students looking to pursue further education.

“In order for students to be prepared for the educational climate in university, they will need to be exposed to exams, as a fundamental method for evaluation, early on in their education” said Grauer.
