“I am honoured by this great distinction,” said Minister Toews. “Throughout my life, the education I received at The University of Winnipeg has served me well in my private life and through my many years of public service. I couldn’t be more proud to be an alumni of this great institution.”
Minister Toews commended the University of Winnipeg, under the leadership of Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, for the work being done recently to open the University’s doors to the community, and for breaking down barriers between the university and the neighbourhood that surrounds it.
Minister Toews was proud to be share the honour with his family and friends in attendance at the ceremony on Sunday.
“My family and friends are my biggest supporters and provide me my greatest happiness,” said Minister Toews. “I want to thank my family and friends who are were able to take time from their busy schedules to attend the ceremony, especially my mother who, undaunted by the challenges of age, was determined to see me receive this honour.”
